Finishing a 200-hour yoga teacher training course in Koh Samui is exhilarating up until the time you go back to dry land and is greeted by gray rain clouds and is faced with people galloping off from the aircraft to get to the immigration counters ASAP! Then it hits, ah yes, I am definitely back in Hong Kong.
Reminiscing, I would always find myself smiling. Training to be a yoga teacher is veeery tough. Waking up so early everyday, doing kriyas, asana practice 6 times a week twice a day, attending lectures and actually listening to them and putting up with the teacher’s mood swings. Of course there’s also the bright and beautiful side to the training. First of are my classmates. They are all so wonderful and hard working students. The group was phenomenal! Then there’s the food, my room, the pool, chit chats, the sun, the beach and Koh Samui, and oh, did I mention the food?
I’m posting this note that I sent to my friends when I was in Koh Samui. I think it totally reflects the state of mind I was in when I was doing the training.
I feel so alive today! It’s almost like a rebirth, I can’t even recognize myself. A few days ago I looked pasty and worn-out, rundown by the diurnality of life. Eating healthy food, practicing asanas, inhaling fresh air, learning new things and assimilating them and interacting with new and wonderful people really makes a world of change on a person.
Forgetting who I really am is commonplace especially when my ego gets the best of me. I become dramatic, reactive and downright unpleasant. Complaining sets in.
But today is special, I was able to tap into that space in myself where the true me lies dormant and forgotten. And the nice part is, that part of me didn’t resist coming out. Quoting B.K.S. Iyengar, ”When everything else is stripped away the essential is revealed.” I have found my light once again, a single photon so basic yet so bright, it makes my whole body tingle. It feels like my nervous system is on overdrive, it’s almost scary. I found my light again and I’m not scared to shine it brightly. I better wear my sunglasses or I might blind myself silly……
Woohoo!
Woohoo! Indeed.
